Velitchka YOTCHEVA, one of Canada’s most gifted young cellists, is enjoying a brilliant career as a soloist and chamber musician, and has performed to great acclaim throughout Canada, as well as in Russia, Bulgaria, France, and the United States.
Velitchka Yotcheva is trained in the Russian school of cello playing, as represented by Mstislav Rostropovitch and Simeon Kozolupov. At 18, she left for Moscow to attend the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where she studied with Marina Tchaikovskaya (former student and assistant to Rostropovitch) and later worked under the direction of Valentin Feigin; she also studied chamber music with Alexandre Korchagin (member of the Shostakovich Quartet). In 1992, she obtained her Master of Arts diploma from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow. After emigrating to Canada in 1995, Velitchka Yotcheva completed her Doctorate in Music in 2000, at the Universite de Montreal, under the supervision of Yuli Turovsky. She is the winner of two Bulgarian national competitions, and received a second prize at the Concours International du Centre d’Arts Orford.
Lead by her great love of chamber music, Velitchka Yotcheva founded the Trio Rachmaninoff, with whom she has extensively toured Europe and the United States, to great public and critical acclaim. More recently, she has participated in prestigious festivals such as the Festival de Musique du Mont-Tremblant and the International Festival of Chamber Music of Niagara. She has also played for the Societe Pro Musica in Montreal, and the Montreal Chamber Music Society, of which she is the artistic director.

These are the standard abbreviations for the various
types of carriers. When you order an album you can choose
whether you want it on MC – audio cassette, CD – compact
disc, DVD – DVD disc, VCD – video compact disc or VHS
– video cassette PAL format.
Are DVDs compatible with US standards?
Yes, they are. DVDs are in PAL format but they can be
played without any problems on NTSC TV systems as long
as the DVD player reads discs in PAL format. There are
compatibility problems in less than one percent of the
cases and they only arise on very cheap value line DVD-players.
Are DVDs region encoded?
Unless it is not specifically marked next to the DVD,
DVDs are not encoded and can be played on any DVD-player
irrespective of the region it is produced for.
